When we got to the zoo, we were pleasantly surprised at how nice it was. All the Internet information I found before the trip indicated that zoo conditions in China were not up to American standards. The panda exhibits were very well done and there was plenty of room for the animals. The pandas seemed to be most interesting in eating, whatever position they happened to find themselves in. Bamboo is almost all they eat, and they eat a lot of it -- 20 - 40 pounds a day! In the wild they must spend 10-16 hours a day foraging for food. We also learned that since Pandas are not bears, they don't hibernate.
In the nursery, there were several babies in little "cribs". Their main activity also seemed to be eating.
