Day 16 A boat ride on the West Lake

We drove through the crazy traffic to the park along the lake first thing in the morning. This was the worst traffic we have seen so far in China, but it was partly because it was a week-end.

We walked part way through the park to get to the boat docks, and saw some beautiful white peacocks -- the first ones I've ever seen. We were told that it is the mating season, so the males are particularly flamboyant right now.

Once we got to the boat, we started out into the lake, along with hundreds of other boats of all sizes and types. The Chinese people drive boats the way they drive cars -- every which way. The second picture is our boat, and the other two show some of the other lake traffic. As you can see, it was VERY smoggy. The trip was enjoyable, but the sightseeing was limited.
