Opps! I missed day 7--which was the day we began with Tai Chi. Sorry.
We woke up very early to have breakfast at 6:45 this morning. We then left the main ship at 7:30 to board a little ferry for travelling up the Shennong Stream. The purpose for the trip was to see a little of life in the country. There are 55 minorities within China and many of them have their own unique cultures. This area was home to the Ba people who are mainly farmers.
The first picture is of our little ferry and the second is of the front of a ship that arrived at the port overnight. The third picture is of our River guides. There were several tour groups on the boat and each had their own guide.
Finally we began travelling up the stream. Quiet and peaceful was the description that came to mind. As we discovered all along the Yangtze River, farmers work incredibly hard farming on the hillsides. Sometimes we couldn't imagine how they managed to prepare the soil and plant on such a steep hill.
Even on this stream, the water level will rise next year, so a lot of the ground being farmed will be under water next year. Apparently, they will just move up the hillside and continue planting. For the most part, people that don't absolutely have to move are staying--at least the older generation. Many of the young people prefer living in the city where they can make more money and life is a lot easier and more fun.
