Day 11 A dumpling dinner and the Chinese Opera

For dinner tonight we went to a dinner theatre for a traditional Tang Dynasty musical and dumpling dinner.

They served several appetizers, and then 19 different dumplings in separate courses. Each dumpling was shaped differently and generally represented what was inside. Some of the shapes were: flower, duck, chicken, pig, pumpkin, walnut, fish, boiled dumpling, mystery dumpling (we couldn't understand what it was suppose to be) and monkey face. We were nervous about "monkey face" since everything else represented what was inside.... There were others that we have forgotten. The final course was tiny dumpling soup. The story was that you could tell your fortune by how many tiny dumplings you got. One was a good journey, two was happiness, etc.

The show was very elegant and elaborately costumed. One musician was very funny and used facial expression to create part of the show. One time he was a duck, another time a tiger, etc.
