Day 2 Arrival in Beijing
This is a picture of the hotel lobby
Our national guide, Mingong Liu (known to us as Mark), was very personable and knowledgeable. We were glad, because he would be with us for the entire three weeks. The hotel that was our home in Beijing was only about three weeks old, and we were the only tour group staying there. We were asked to be patient with the staff because they were still learning. Since we were learning to be tourists in China, it seemed only fair. Our room was beautiful, but we had a little trouble with the electrical. We learned that in Chinese hotels, you have to put the room key in a slot just inside the door for the lights to work. If you take out the "key" they go off in about a minute. It was amusing to hear people up and down the hall complaining about the lights going off, but of course the same thing happened to us!
