After dinner, we went to see the evening water show. This is only performed in good weather, so we didn't know until that afternoon whether or not it was being performed. We were SO glad it didn't rain! The program was called Impressions, Sanjie Liu by Zhang Yimou.
Here is a website with more pictures and descriptions:

There were suppose to be more than 600 performers, all local farmers, fishermen and children, and it was different from anything we've ever seen before. The entire performance was done on boats and barges. Everyone seems quite proud of the producer, who was doing the opening ceremonies of the Beijing Olympics. They certainly had good reason for their pride.
The first picture shows the fishermen on their raft-like boats performing with long sheets of red plastic. They pulled themselves back and forth across the water in various rhythms, patterns and with changes in lighting. The second picture was of the beginning of a seemingly endless line of performers in lighted costumes. The lights flashed and blinked to the music and the line went completely across the performance bay. The third picture was of a group of ladies who sang a song related to the story line.
After the performance, we went for a walk along the main market street and found the local bars to be very lively, even out on the street.
